The Singapore Energy Centre (SgEC) is announcing the second grant call for its core projects.

Background

Climate change as a result of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is one of the greatest challenges of the 21st century. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released its special report on 8 Oct 2018, “Global Warming of 1.5°C” in which it called upon all nations to commit serious efforts to cap global temperature rise at 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels to avoid catastrophic climate change. As part of efforts to tackle climate change, Singapore aims to halve its 2030 peak greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, and to achieve net zero emissions “as soon as viable” in the second half of the century. Under the current business-as-usual growth trajectory, temperature in Singapore could rise up to 4°C.  Thus, there is an urgent need for us to develop more solutions to reduce our carbon emissions and meet growing energy demand in a sustainable manner.

Theme of Research Grant Call 

This is an open grant call on ‘Energy Transition Solutions’. Below is a non-exhaustive list of

possible topics/areas for SgEC Core Projects 2021:

1. Carbon capture, storage, and utilization (CCSU)
2. Renewable H₂ and H₂ pathways
3. Plastic waste/circular economy
4. ASEAN net zero roadmap by 2050
5. Natural gas for Asia/developing countries
6. Climate/environmental topics
7. Energy efficiency
8. Energy transport, storage, and conversion
9. Geothermal for Asia
10. Negative emission technologies

Duration and Funding

• Singapore Energy Centre will fund successful proposals up to USD$200,000 (including 20% overheads) for 2 years. The grant may be used to cover manpower costs and other operating expenses such as consumables, travel and technical services.
• Requests for funding to acquire equipment or setup separate test facilities are strongly discouraged.
• PIs are advised to provide a realistic budget with appropriate justifications that corresponds to the scope of work to be accomplished over the timeline proposed.
• The proposed project duration, including completion of the final report and all miscellaneous project activities, shall not exceed 2 years.

Eligibility 

• Each project should be led by one faculty in NUS or NTU, or one Researcher in A*STAR, as the PI. The PI should hold at least 70% primary appointment for minimum of 9 months in these institutions. Additional members can be listed as Co-PI(s) or collaborator(s).
• All participants must abide to the terms and conditions of the Membership Agreement (MA).

• Please download a copy of ‘Call for Proposal template’ for your kind reference.
• Email softcopy of the ‘proposal’ to admin@sgenergyconsortium.org with subject heading “Singapore Energy Centre – Project Proposal Title – 2^nd Call for Core Projects 21”.
• Proposal should keep to a maximum of 6 pages, written in Arial font, with a minimum size 12-point font within reasonable margins.
• The proposal submission should be endorsed by the host institution.
