Abstract
Globally, more countries and corporations have made commitment to net zero/carbon neutrality. Many countries have included CCUS in their long-term low greenhouse gas emission development strategies, including several countries in Southeast Asia.
Southeast Asia has been one of fastest growing regions of the world. Its energy demand has grown more than 80 per cent from 2000. Oil, coal and gas provides more than 70 per cent of its energy. With the region’s power generation fuel mix and rapidly growing natural gas production, alongside established and emerging emissions reduction commitments, CCS has a unique and critical role to play. The region has great potential (both sources and sinks) to develop multi-user hubs which may be used to reduce CO2 emissions from within the region and outside. This presentation will touch on several key barriers for regional hub deployment, including commercial mechanism, CO2 transport by shipping/offshore pipeline, international legal framework, and public perception.
